Dr Ewan McGaughey is a senior lecturer at the School of Law, King’s College, London, and a research associate at the Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge. He also volunteers for the Free Representation Unit in employment law cases. At university, he specialises in labour law, enterprise law, corporate law, pensions, and contract law, and takes a strong interest in history and economics. Before becoming a full time member of staff at King’s in 2014, Ewan worked on precarious part-time, fixed-term contracts while doing a Ph.D. at the London School of Economics. He holds degrees from King’s, Humboldt University, Berlin and the LSE. Before becoming a teacher, Ewan worked as a pizza company ‘wobbleboarder’, at a supermarket checkout, a chemist, a cinema, a bank, a heritage consultancy, a clothing company warehouse, two local councils, the Prison Ombudsman, Parliament, the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, a consumer and competition regulator, a housing association, a law firm, and as a bus tour guide. These are some of the reasons why he believes labour rights are important. He has been a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Sydney. He has published numerous articles, A Casebook on Labour Law (Hart 2019) and is working on a new book, Principles of Enterprise Law (2021).
