Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell endorsed the Institute of Employment Rights’ Manifesto for Labour Law at two conferences this weekend.

At the TUC’s first 150th Anniversary celebrations at the Mechanics Institute in Manchester on Friday 01 June, McDonnell held the Manifesto during his speech and spoke on how the IER’s recommendations have helped to shape Labour policy.

On Saturday 02 June, the Shadow Chancellor gave a speech entitled ‘What would a national investment bank do?’ at the People’s Assembly event Change is Coming. Within that speech he held a copy of the Manifesto for Labour Law to show the audience and endorsed the proposals within it.

Further, the People’s Assembly promoted the Manifesto within their own report – In Place of Austerity: a programme for the people – which was handed out to delegates.

The IER also spoke at the TUC’s Anniversary event in Manchester, with Director Carolyn Jones and President Professor Keith Ewing joining the panel on a session entitled Framing and Changing Laws.
