Submission to the House of Commons Regulatory Reform Committee Inquiry into the Government Deregulation Agenda

This response recommends that health and safety law is modernised to fit with an increasingly fragmented workplace.

Professors Steve Tombs, David Whyte, David Walters and Phil James respond, on behalf of the Institute of Employment Rights, to the Regulatory Reform Committee’s inquiry into the government’s deregulation agenda.

The authors recommend that health and safety law is modernised to fit with an increasingly fragmented workplace, regulation that prioritises business interest over public safety is scrapped, and trade unions are provided with increased involvement in health and safety decisions, as well as powers to cease work that presents and immediate risk.
