Implications of the government’s proposals on employment agencies

Professor Sonia McKay interrogates the implications of the Coalition's latest proposals for the regulation of employmebt agencies.

Professor McKay demonstrates that the consultation responses to the government’s plans to ‘minimise’ legislation affecting the sector largely do not support the idea of deregulation, and that the final proposals of the government either make no change to the current law or require further clarification.

The one thing we do know is that the enforcement of regulations affecting employment agencies will be drastically cut to a small team who will not have the resources or remit to properly manage the sector or conduct thorough investigations. The Coalition, Professor McKay says, is essentially giving the industry a free pass to break the rules.
