About the event

After a year where fire and rehire, the P&O scandal and restrictive anti-union legislation hit the headlines, the IER looks back at the lessons from the Pentonville 5, 50 years ago this summer.

The event will hear from a range of speakers about the attacks on trade union freedoms, employment rights and the right to strike. With a new PM in Downing Street, seemingly intent on ripping up more of our rights, it couldn’t be a more opportune time to have this discussion.

The right to protest and to picket are quickly becoming even more caveated. Come and join us to hear about when the Pentonville Five resisted authoritarian anti-worker laws, leading to criminalisation, yet won their freedom and cause because of union solidarity. Come and hear our excellent speakers discuss the need to defend workers against victimisation and criminalisation for enforcing their rights, and why workers need a new deal, that fits the needs of all workers in the 21st Century.
