Tories cut 1m public sector jobs

The Tories have cut a million public sector jobs since they came into power, new analysis by GMB has revealed.

The figures, obtained from Office for National Statistics releases and published by the Morning Star, show a 16% drop in public sector jobs over the last six years, prompting General Secretary Tim Roache to call on Chancellor Phillip Hammond to take urgent action to re-invest in the workforce.

“The fact we have lost one million public-sector workers since the Tories came to power should be a source of shame,” he said, adding that the roles cut by the government have been replaced with “precarious work with insecure terms and conditions”.

“The deliberate, gradual destruction of our public services is an act of pure political vandalism. We need to see them rebuilt,” he stated.
