Modernising labour law to meet the challenges of the 21st century
On 22nd November 2006 the European Union Commission published a Green Paper: Modernising labour law to meet the challenges of the 21st century
In response, the UK's House of Lords Select Committee on the Euorpean Union conducted its own inquiry into the issues raised by the European Green Paper.
The Select Committee invited individuals and organisations to respond by 30th March 2007. The Institute submitted a response which can be downloaded here (8 A4 pages in Adobe)

As the BNP began to take unions to court for attempting to expel BNP members from the union, the Institute of Employment Rights' submitted its thoughts on s 174 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 to the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Reviewing The Employment Relations Act 2003
In February 2003 the government circulated its consultation paper reviewing the operation of the Employment Relations Act 1999.
In the Foreword to the Review, Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, declared that the Act had been a "resounding success". While identifying some areas where the legislation is unclear or has left loopholes, requiring some limited changes, the clear opinion of the government is that the current framework of UK law is "sound and effective".
