Public sector workers lose up to 10% of earnings, govt report shows

The government quietly released a report on public sector pay earlier this week, which showed that workers in the ten main public sector professions have lost 10.1% of their earnings.

According to the document, released on Monday, all workers across the UK saw an average median decline in real hourly earnings by 5.8% between 2005 and 2015.

The report specifically focused on the 2.5 million workers covered by Pay Review Bodies, who lost a median average of 3.1% on their hourly earnings.

Most healthcare workers included in the study saw a fall in their earnings, reaching as much as a 19.4% drop for radiographers, 13.3% for physiotherapists, and 22.5% for doctors.

Teachers also saw declines of 10.1%, police officers suffered a 7.5% cut and prison officers’ wages reduced by 9.1%.
