Following our blog on the Coalition’s plan to reverse a 114-year-old employment right, which would mean employers no longer had strict liability for their workers’ health and safety, an e-petition has been launched to fight the proposals.

The petition was drawn up by Prospect trade union after our blog, which was based on a briefing by Thompsons Solicitors, was shared extensively among trade union members and other interested parties.

We would like to thank everybody who helped us spread the news on this important amendment to Section 47 of the Health and Safety at Work Act, which went to the Lords as part of the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform bill without public consultation.

We have further critical analysis of the amendment, which was introduced at the eleventh hour, from a health and safety expert this week. Make sure you sign up to our mailing list in the top left of the website to keep up to date with this story.
