Further details announced on review of Public Sector Equality Duty

The government has revealed the terms of reference for the review of the Public Sector Equality Duty and the names of those on the steering committee.

Secretary of State for the Home Office Theresa May announced in March this year that the Equality Act 2010 would be reviewed. Since then, the socio-economic duty has been repealed, the commencement of dual discrimination provisions and reasonable adjustments to common parts provisions have been delayed, and proposals to remove employers’ liability for the harassment of an employee by a third party has been added to the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill, which has now gone to the Lords.

The government are now moving on to the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), which requires state departments to consider the impact of their work on all individuals, whether they are employees or members of the public.

It has now been announced that the government’s review of the PSED will be completed by April 2013 and the government will seek evidence from interested parties as part of this process.
