TUC Fringe Meeting 2009 The Institute of Employment Rights and the United Campaign held a joint fringe meeting at this years TUC Congress in Liverpool. Speakers included: Brian Caton POA; Keith Ewing IER; Tony Kearns CWU; John Hendy QC IER / UC Len McCluskey UNITE; Mark Serwotka PCS; Sarah Veale TUC; Matt Wrack FBU Chair Carolyn Jones IER The meeting was well attended with over 150 delegates turning up to hear the speakers. The fringe was opened by Carolyn Jones of the IER who gave an introduction to the theme ‘Politics Has Failed’ and invited speakers to give their views on where trade unionists should go from here. Speakers from the various unions gave their insights into how the current situation is affecting their members and how they believe unions should progress the case for fair rights and free unions over the coming months. John Hendy QC and Prof Keith Ewing provided the audience with the legal background to the current situation and shared their views on the most effective way for unions to respond to the anti-union laws.
